Before you record, you really should have an idea about what you intend to say.

For some projects, you will want to have a real script laying out exactly what you will talk about.

For other projects, you can get away with an outline or some notes on paper. There is software, like Omni Outliner that will help you organize the ideas. Using software can help you make your shownotes more easily. If the software is well designed, you can update the script as you talk and at the end, you can have an accurate script.
